Urban Sterling will donate 100% of the profits made from sales of this Semicolon ring to Beyond Blue. Please note that the first two images are of the handmade Semicolon and the last 5 are the CAD Semicolon. To view the official Urban Sterling fundraising page, please click here.
08/09/2021: We recently broke $500 raised for Beyond Blue. Thank you so much!
The semicolon punctuation mark is a message of solidarity against suicide, depression, addiction, and other mental health issues. “A semicolon is used when an author could have chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you, and the sentence is your life.” ~ Semicolon Project
This initiative is especially important in our current situation since COVID has made it impossible to see our friends and family face to face. The lack of social interaction and support can quickly lead to intense feelings of isolation and sadness. I’m sure you’re either experiencing the effects of this yourself, or know someone who is.
In Australia, mental illness is very common. 45% of Australians will at some point in their life experience a mental disorder. We all know the consequences of not treating mental illness. 8 Australians die every day from suicide (more than double the amount that die in car accidents), and over 65,000 Australians attempt suicide each year. Suicide is the leading cause of death between the ages of 15-44.
The engraving on the inside of the band is a Russian proverb that reads: “Поживём – увидим.” It’s pronounced “Pozhivom – uvidim” and means “We will live, we will see” or more concisely “Wait and see.”
I’ve made two donation options for the Semicolon ring:
Standard: Designed with CAD software, clean and flawless.
Handmade: Made by hand using the 6,000 year old lost wax casting process. Smooth and well-crafted, but with a hint more personality. Every copy is unique and made entirely from scratch by me.
If you’d like to donate more, but still get the CAD designed Semicolon, just leave your request in the order comments.
This ring will be sold in sizes 7-11 US initially, if enough sell that I can produce a size 4-7 without spending too much of the donation I will. You can find a handy sizing guide here. Please expect to wait around 1-2 weeks for this ring. Thank you.
