1. Ensure your design has an overarching theme. If you’re using text, make sure the font is all the same. If you’re using images, try to keep them all in the same artstyle. This’ll give your submission a defined personality. If all of the elements of your design interact with and complement each other, even better.
2. Remember you’re designing jewellery, not just drawing a picture. Try to work with the shape of the piece, and don’t focus all your efforts on drawing cool illustrations. Jewellery is a 3D medium, so if you only work on engravings you’ll be missing half the design.
3.Don’t forget the inside / back. Elements on the back of pendants and inside rings aren’t visible most of the time, but when they are they make a real impact.
Keep in mind that I’m interested in the concept not the illustration, so if you’re bad at drawing its not an issue. Just do your best to give me an idea of what you’re going for using a collection of images, text etc.
There are three categories in the competition: signet, band, and pendant. You can enter as many designs as you’d like into any division you’d like. The winner of each category will receive a copy of their design in 935 Argentium silver, as well as their choice of any 2 products from the Urban Sterling catalogue. You’ll also be personally credited for the design in future, so feel free to add your initials or a little hallmark on the inside. Winners will be announced on the 18th of July and submissions can be made below. You can attach up to 10 files with a 20MB upload limit.
Good luck everyone! 🙂
